Low Calorie Zucchini Pasta / Noodles / Spaghetti.

Yesterday I post a recipe that used zucchini pasta. So I decided to post detail about how to make zucchini pasta.

As I said on yesterday's post zucchini pasta or spaghetti is used on the raw food diet. I actually sautee the zucchini for couple minutes just so they get a little tender. I believe in the raw diet you would not
cook it at all.
The Raw diet  is very interesting, although I do not think I would be able to follow. I will probably post more about raw diet another day.

To make zucchini pasta you will need only 2 things. One is the zucchini. Two is some tool to julienne the zucchini.
There are couple tools that can be used.

1) Julienne Peeler - $10 to $20

I use a julienne peeler. It is easy, small, and cheap. It is basically a peeler that julienne vegetable as you peel.

I have couple of them, but the best I have is the Titan Julienne Tool. I bought mine at Bed Bath and Beyond, and I believe it was around $20 including shipping. It is a set with a regular and the julienne peeler. I have to say I totally recommend it. The regular peeler is just fantastic. It peels in both directions, and the blade is super sharp.

2) Mandolin Slicer - from $20 to $50

The Mandolin Slicer is a little more money but still cheap, and relatively small. You can definitely julienne vegetable much quicker with the mandolin. Just put the julienne blade and start "julienning". I do not own one so I cannot recommend any.

3) Spiral Slicer - varies a lot, from $20 to $70

This one can definitely get pricey. There are a lot of different spiral slicer, and price varies too, but some of them are definitely more expensive - about $50. Again there are many types of spiral slicer but they are usually bigger, then a mandolin or peeler. However, they are probably much easier and quicker to use.

They also give a more noodle like cut, and your pasta will be much longer as it cuts the vegetable in spiral - as the name already explains for itself.
I do not have and have never tried this one so again I have no idea which one is good.

Some of the type of spiral slicer

And this is how you can get Zucchini Pasta, Spaghetti or Noodle - whatever you want to call it.

PS: I love to make this noodles with zucchini, but you can also make noodles with carrots, squash or any other vegetable you can think of. Just try to use low calorie vegetables if you trying to loose weight  :)
